Sports at a Wedding....

We here at Searching for Erin Gleeson are very happy that the UCONN Huskies run deep into the NCAA tournament.   Truly a remarkable season for a team that had no business making the Final Four.   This brings us to a larger point ... Sports on Wedding Days:

I love my friends - I do  (and am now realizing they had no control of their wedding date.)  But I have attended weddings during the LCS playofs and the World Series, the NCAA Tournament, The Final Day of the Masters, the NBA finals and the Iditarod.  So, when planning our wedding and choosing a date, we had some tough choices to make.

I went to a wedding in Boston, when the Yankees lost the world series to the Marlins.  And, as a young child, drove through Buffalo coming back from a Bar-Mitzvah when Norwood missed the field goal and the Giants won the Superbowl.  (I was 11 and not driving but I was in the car... Buffalo in January is beautiful.... )

So how'd I do?   The answer is ... pretty good.  Not perfect, but pretty good.  We avoided any playoffs! We are a week before the start of football season!  We could be in the middle of the baseball pennant race, but will be pretty removed from the end of the season.   Where I missed is that the wedding falls during the middle of the US Open.   Andy Roddick already rsvp'd:  "with regrets -- here's to 40 years of Love."

For those who want -- and who wouldn't -- the A's have home games Sept 2 - 7th and the World Champs have home games the weeks surrounding the wedding.   If you are local, or making a week out of your trip to California, we are going to see the day game Giants v. Cubs on 8/31

Jon as Tim Lincecum for Purim.

  1. I'd like to note that there are batting cages, a soccer field and tennis courts at our wedding site. No accident.

  2. Camp Wedding sounds awesome! Roddick's sentiment is lovely, but with his track record of exiting the tourney during week 1, I suspect he'll be able to attend.
    Looking forward,
    Jef
